«Первая вариация возвышается, словно торжественные ворота, и вводит нас в прекрасный мир». Бах был христианином, и вся его музыка наполнена христианскими образами и символикой. Число вариаций (тридцать) не случайно. Вариации можно условно разделить на 10 групп по три вариации (третья из которых является каноном). Число три – это символ Святой Троицы, Отца, Сына и Святого Духа. А десять – это Десять Заповедей.
