Gondolin English Gondolin - in the legendarium of J. R. R. Tolkien, the secret city of the Elves, built by Turgon in the First Age. Originally named Ondolindë ("Rock of the Music of the Waters")[1][2] in honor of the springs on Amon Gwareth, it was given the name Gondolin ("Hidden Rock") in Sindarin. The Fall of Gondolin, written in late 1916, is Tolkien's first complete work on Ea; it is also the first work about Tolkien's world to be published, as it was read by the author at the Exeter College Literary Club in 1918.
