Преподобный Нектарий Печерский, инок Киево-Печерского монастыря, подвизался в XII веке. За беспрекословное исполнение воли старшей братии и усердие в трудах он именовался «послушливым» (6-я песнь канона). Преподобный Нектарий погребен в Антониевой пещере.
Люди мира не хотят слышать о послушании: им дорога свобода безграничная. Как, казалось бы, не видеть необходимости послушания! В природе каждое звено ее сцеплено с другим и все держится повиновением низшего высшему. Владыка миров правит миром человеческим при посредстве мира ангельского, а мир вещественный отдан в распоряжение человека. Возможен ли порядок в семье, в общине, в городе, в государстве, если не будет послушания? Свобода, говорят, — неприкосновенная святыня! Но какая свобода? Истинная свобода состоит в повиновении святой воле Божией; другая же свобода — унижение человеку, бессмыслие и нечестие. «Послушание лучше жертвы. Непокорным быть — то же, что творить грех волхвования, и непослушным быть — то же, что совершать нечестие идолопоклонства» (1 Цар. 15, 22—23). Таково учение откровения Божия!
