Найпомітніший вплив на розвиток мистецтва оформлення української книжки в сімнадцятому столітті мала творчість Леонтія Тарасевича.
Митець навчався в Баварії, його ранній період творчості пов'язаний із Литвою, пізніший — з Україною. У мистецтві Тарасевич прославився як художник-гравер. Нагадаємо, що гравюра - це вид графіки, у якому зображення є друкованим відбитком з малюнка, вирізьбленого на спеціально підготовленій дошці.
