Ginastera's fame outside the circle of fans of academic music is associated primarily with the arrangements of the group "Emerson, Lake and Palmer", starting with "Toccata" (the finale of Ginastera's first piano concerto), included in the album "Brain Salad Surgery" (1973). Keith Emerson came to Geneva to introduce the composer to the arrangement, and Ginastera exclaimed in Spanish: “Damn!” - so the discouraged Emerson was ready to abandon his work, until Ginastera’s wife intervened and explained in English that the composer meant, on the contrary, a high appreciation of his work, since he wanted to create just such a terrifying effect with his music.
