"Садок священник" – это богослужебное песнопение, написанное Генделем в 1727 по случаю коронации Георга II. В оригинальном сочинении использовался текст из англоязычной Библии. Это один из четырёх коронационных антифонов, которые Гендель сочинил для нового короля Англии. Они исполнялись при всех последующих британских коронационных службах.
Тексты для всех четырёх гимнов выбрал сам композитор – к неудовольствию священнослужителей, вынужденных совершать помазание монарха на престол под такие ужасные, как им казалось песни. Тексты, впрочем, были все из Библии, под некоторой только редакцией Генделя. В них повествовалось о восшествии на престол Иудеи царя Соломона, о том, как священник Садок совершает помазание, и о том, как народ этому весьма радуется, так что земля расседается о криков его.

Исполнил его академический хор церкви "St. Martin's in the Fields" (Лондон) сразу на трёх официальных языках УЕФА, английском, немецком и французском, в сопровождении Королевского филармонического оркестра.

Priest’s Zadok is a liturgical hymn written by Handel in 1727 on the occasion of the coronation of George II. The original essay used text from the English Bible. This is one of the four coronation antiphons that Handel composed for the new king of England. They were performed at all subsequent British coronation services.
The lyrics for all four hymns were chosen by the composer himself - to the displeasure of the clergy who were forced to anoint the monarch to the throne under such terrible songs as they thought. The texts, however, were all from the Bible, edited only by Handel. They described the accession to the throne of Judea by King Solomon, how priest Zadok performs the anointing, and how the people are very happy about this, so that the earth scatters about his cries.
265 years have passed since Handel created the “Priest’s Camp” and in 1992, UEFA instructed Tony Britten to create an anthem for the Champions League, which they created then. And the anthem was composed on the basis of Handel's coronation antiphon. He was performed by the academic choir of St. Martin's in the Fields (London) in the three official languages of UEFA, English, German and French, accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
