Paranoid is the second studio album of British rock band Black Sabbath, recorded in London by Regent Sound Studios, produced by Roger Bane, and released in 1970. On October 10, 1970, the album climbed to the top of the UK Albums Chart, displacing Simon and Garfancla from Bridge Over Troubled Water from the first place; in the US he reached 12th place.
After the release of the debut album Black Sabbath returned to the studio in June 1970 to record the next album. The working title of the disc was War Pigs, but it had to be abandoned because the recording company feared a negative reaction in the US that waged the war in Vietnam. Nevertheless, the anti-war sentiment remained in the design of the album: it was symbolized by a distorted photographic image of a bearded man jumping out from behind a tree with a shield and a sword in his hands.
The title track was written right in the studio in 25 minutes.
