Это место Писания говорит о награде от Бога, которая не дается просто так, а только после определенных испытаний. И судя по контексту всей первой главы речь идет о вере человека, вере прошедшей испытания, и не просто испытания, а искушения, который поставили саму веру человека под сомнения, которые имеют целью разрушить наши убеждения, увлечь нас ко греху, а может быть даже дать нам взамен веру ложную, оправдывающую грех. Пройдя эти испытания и обретя терпение человек удостаивается награды от Бога. Вот за что Бог дает награду, за развитие нашего терпения в укрепленной вере, удивительно. Это есть апологетика веры. Мы проходим не тест на знание, мы проходим испытания на грани наших сил, только так рождается терпение, иногда со стиснутыми зубами и напряженным лицом.
Но не менее интересно название самой награды «Венец жизни». Значит, по мнению Писания, венцом нашей жизни будут не достижения спортивные, финансовые, строительные, политические, научные, да и Бог знает какие другие, а сохраненная и испытанная вера, душа устоявшая в искушениях, терпение укрепившее нас. Как дом без крыши, или выстрел без цели, труд без вознаграждения, хотя бы морального, так не увенчавшаяся жизнь, не законченная. Она может быть масштабной или нет, известной или совсем нет, но в итоге своем получает или не получает свой венец у Судии всех Бога, который смотрит на веру, испытанную веру.
