Ба́ски(баскск.Euskaldun)— народ, населяющий т.н.баскские земли в северной Испаниии юго-западной Франции. Единственный западноевропейский народ, не говорящий на языке индоевропейской группы. Баскский язык (называющийся по-баскски Euskara) считается изолированным языком. Происхождение басков не выяснено. Достоверно установленным можно считать лишь то, что баскский язык происходит от аквитанского языка, распространённого в Аквитании до завоевания римлянами и просуществовавшего до раннего Средневековья. Морфологически баскский язык напоминает язык иберийцев(древнейшего населения Испании), но является не его потомком, а скорее отдалённым родственником. Дискуссионными остаются вопросы о родстве басков с кавказскими народами или сдревним доиндоевропейским населением Европы.
