«Пармская обитель» – второй роман Стендаля о Реставрации. Парма, в числе других провинций Северной Италии, была на короткое время освобождена Наполеоном от владычества Австрии. Стендаль изображает пармских патриотов как людей, для которых имя Наполеона становится синонимом освобождения их родины. А в то же время столпы пармской реакции, страшась Наполеона, готовы в любую минуту предать свою родину.
“Parma Monastery” is Stendhal’s second novel about the Restoration. Parma, among other provinces of northern Italy, was briefly liberated by Napoleon from the rule of Austria. Stendhal portrays Parma patriots as people for whom the name of Napoleon becomes synonymous with the liberation of their homeland. At the same time, the pillars of the Parma reaction, fearing Napoleon, are ready at any moment to betray their homeland.
