Large-scale polyphonic cycle “Art of the Fugue” I.S. Bach wrote in the last years of his life (1749-1750), creating the highest example of counterpoint punishment. Fugues on a laconic theme in D minor follow in this work one after another according to the principle of ascent from simple to complex.
In the interpretation of Rudolf Barshai's “The Art of the Fugue”, it appears not only as a perfect compositional work, but above all as an artistically informative, full of deep human meaning.
