Зеленая Тара названа Матерью будд трех времен: она - персонификация божественной энергии Просветленных сущностей. Ее изображают шестнадцатилетней девушкой, приспустившей правую ногу с трона в знак ее стремления прийти на помощь к людям. Ее правая рука в мудре щедрости (варада), у левой, поднятой к груди, большой и указательный пальцы соединены в мудре наставления (витарка) и держат стебель лотоса, а три поднятых пальца символизируют Тройственное Прибежище. Часто богиня держит лотосы в обеих руках.
