В 1922 году под влиянием идей Гастева, композитор и теоретик Арсений Авраамов создает циклопическую «Гудковую симфонию», для которой весь город становится музыкальным инструментом: гудки заводов и фабрик составляют один гигантский оркестр, пулеметы заменяют малые барабаны, а крупная артиллерия — большие. Дирижер становится на специальную вышку, видимую отовсюду. В 1923 году Авраамов, увлеченный идеей пространственной организации музыкального материала, формулирует проект «топографической акустики». Он предлагает создать мощные электроакустические системы, устанавливаемые на аэропланах, позволяющие озвучивать гигантские территории в масштабах целых городов.
