У сынов Рувимовых и у сынов Гадовых стад было весьма много; и увидели они, что земля Иазер и земля Галаад есть место годное для стад;
и пришли сыны Гадовы и сыны Рувимовы и сказали Моисею и Елеазару священнику и князьям общества, говоря:
Атароф и Дивон, и Иазер, и Нимра, и Есевон, и Елеале, и Севам, и Нево, и Веон,
земля, которую Господь поразил пред обществом Израилевым, есть земля годная для стад, а у рабов твоих есть стада.
И сказали: если мы нашли благоволение в глазах твоих, отдай землю сию рабам твоим во владение; не переводи нас чрез Иордан.
И сказал Моисей сынам Гадовым и сынам Рувимовым: братья ваши пойдут на войну, а вы останетесь здесь?
для чего вы отвращаете сердце сынов Израилевых от перехода в землю, которую дает им Господь?
так поступили отцы ваши, когда я посылал их из Кадес-Варни для обозрения земли:
они доходили до долины Есхол, и видели землю, и отвратили сердце сынов Израилевых, чтобы не шли они в землю, которую Господь дает им;
и воспылал в тот день гнев Господа, и поклялся Он, говоря:
люди сии, вышедшие из Египта, от двадцати лет и выше не увидят земли, о которой Я клялся Аврааму, Исааку и Иакову, потому что они не повиновались Мне,
кроме Халева, сына Иефонниина, Кенезеянина, и Иисуса, сына Навина, потому что они повиновались Господу.
И воспылал гнев Господа на Израиля, и водил Он их по пустыне сорок лет, доколе не кончился весь род, сделавший зло в очах Господних.
И вот, вместо отцов ваших восстали вы, отродье грешников, чтоб усилить еще ярость гнева Господня на Израиля.
Если вы отвратитесь от Него, то Он опять оставит его в пустыне, и вы погубите весь народ сей.
И подошли они к нему и сказали: мы построим здесь овчие дворы для стад наших и города для детей наших;
сами же мы первые вооружимся и пойдем пред сынами Израилевыми, доколе не приведем их в места их; а дети наши пусть останутся в укрепленных городах, для безопасности от жителей земли;
не возвратимся в домы наши, доколе не вступят сыны Израилевы каждый в удел свой;
ибо мы не возьмем с ними удела по ту сторону Иордана и далее, если удел нам достанется по эту сторону Иордана, к востоку.
И сказал им Моисей: если вы это сделаете, если вооруженные пойдете на войну пред Господом,
и пойдет каждый из вас вооруженный за Иордан пред Господом, доколе не истребит Он врагов Своих пред Собою,
и покорена будет земля пред Господом, то после возвратитесь и будете неповинны пред Господом и пред Израилем, и будет земля сия у вас во владении пред Господом;
если же не сделаете так, то согрешите пред Господом, и испытаете наказание за грех ваш, которое постигнет вас;
стройте себе города для детей ваших и дворы для овец ваших и делайте, что произнесено устами вашими.
И сказали сыны Гадовы и сыны Рувимовы Моисею: рабы твои сделают, как повелевает господин наш;
дети наши, жены наши, стада наши и весь скот наш останутся тут в городах Галаада,
а рабы твои, все, вооружившись, как воины, пойдут пред Господом на войну, как говорит господин наш.
И дал Моисей о них повеление Елеазару священнику и Иисусу, сыну Навину, и начальникам племен сынов Израилевых,
и сказал им Моисей: если сыны Гадовы и сыны Рувимовы перейдут с вами за Иордан, все вооружившись на войну пред Господом, и покорена будет пред вами земля, то отдайте им землю Галаад во владение;
если же не пойдут они с вами вооруженные, то они получат владение вместе с вами в земле Ханаанской.
И отвечали сыны Гадовы и сыны Рувимовы и сказали: как сказал Господь рабам твоим, так и сделаем;
мы пойдем вооруженные пред Господом в землю Ханаанскую, а удел владения нашего пусть будет по эту сторону Иордана.
И отдал Моисей им, сынам Гадовым и сынам Рувимовым, и половине колена Манассии, сына Иосифова, царство Сигона, царя Аморрейского, и царство Ога, царя Васанского, землю с городами ее и окрестностями, — города земли во все стороны.
И построили сыны Гадовы Дивон и Атароф, и Ароер,
и Атароф-Шофан, и Иазер, и Иогбегу,
и Беф-Нимру и Беф-Гаран, города укрепленные и дворы для овец.
И сыны Рувимовы построили Есевон, Елеале, Ки
и пришли сыны Гадовы и сыны Рувимовы и сказали Моисею и Елеазару священнику и князьям общества, говоря:

The sons of the Reubenites and the sons of the Reptiles had very many herds; and they saw that the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead was a place fit for herds;
and the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben came and said to Moses and Eleazar the priest and the princes of society, saying:
Ataroth and Divon, and Jazer, and Nimra, and Heshbon, and Eleale, and Sebaam, and Nebo, and Beon,
the land that the Lord struck before the congregation of Israel is land fit for herds, and your servants have flocks.
And they said: If we have found favor in your eyes, give this land to your servants for possession; do not translate us through the Jordan.
And Moses said to the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben: your brothers will go to war, and you will remain here?
why do you turn away the heart of the sons of Israel from going into the land that the Lord gives them?
your fathers did this when I sent them from Kadesh-Varni to survey the land:
they reached the valley of Eshol, and saw the land, and turned away the hearts of the sons of Israel, so that they would not go into the land that the Lord gives them;
and the wrath of the Lord kindled that day, and he swore, saying:
these people who came out of Egypt from twenty years and above will not see the land that I swore to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, because they did not obey Me,
except for Caleb, the son of Jephthonnius, the Kenesian, and Jesus, the son of Nun, because they obeyed the Lord.
And the Lord’s anger was kindled against Israel, and He drove them through the wilderness for forty years, until the whole race, which had done evil in the eyes of the Lord, ended.
And now, instead of your fathers, you rebelled, the offspring of sinners, to increase the fury of the wrath of the Lord against Israel.
If you turn away from Him, He will again leave him in the wilderness, and you will destroy all this people.
And they came to him and said: we will build sheep farms here for our herds and cities for our children;
we ourselves will be the first to arm ourselves and go before the sons of Israel, until we bring them to their places; and let our children remain in fortified cities, for safety from the inhabitants of the earth;
We will not return to our houses, until the sons of Israel come into their inheritance.
for we will not take with them the inheritance on the other side of the Jordan and beyond, if we inherit the inheritance on this side of the Jordan, to the east.
And Moses said to them: if you do this, if the armed men go to war before the Lord,
and each of you will go armed for the Jordan before the Lord, until he destroys his enemies before him,
and the land will be subdued before the Lord, then after you return, you will be innocent before the Lord and before Israel, and this land will be in your possession before the Lord;
if you do not do this, you will sin against the Lord, and you will experience the punishment for your sin that will befall you;
Build cities for your children and yards for your sheep, and do as your mouth speaks.
And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben said unto Moses, Thy servants shall do as our lord commands;
our children, our wives, our herds and all our cattle will remain here in the cities of Gilead,
but your servants, all armed with warriors, will go before the Lord to war, as our lord says.
And Moses gave a command about them to Eleazar the priest and Jesus, the son of Nun, and to the chiefs of the tribes of the sons of Israel,
and Moses said to them: if the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben go with you beyond the Jordan, all armed with war before the Lord, and the land subjugated before you, then give them the land of Gilead for possession;
if they do not go armed with you, they will receive possession with you in the land of Canaan.
And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben answered and said, As the Lord said unto thy servants, we will do so;
we will go armed with the Lord to the land of Canaan, and let the inheritance of our possession be on this side of the Jordan.
And Moses gave them, the sons of Gad, and the sons of Reuben, and the half of the tribe of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land with its cities and its environs - the city of the earth in all directions.
And the sons of Gad built Dibon and Ataroth, and Aroer,
and Atarof-Shofan, and Jazer, and Yogbegu,
and Beth Nimru and Beth Haran, fortified cities and yards for sheep.
And the sons of Reuben built Heshbon, Eleale, Ki
and the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben came and said to Moses and Eleazar the priest and the princes of society, saying:
