По словам преосвященного Филарета (Гумилевского), "святой Исаак всю жизнь свою посвятил уединенному изучению души своей, и ничьи поучения не исполнены таких глубоких психологических сведений, как поучения святого Исаака; прошед сам степени духовной созерцательной жизни, святой Исаак представляет наставления о созерцаниях возвышенные и основанные на твердых опытах. Духовная жизнь изображена в его поучениях в приложении к самым неуловимым состояниям души" (Историческое учение об отцах Церкви. СПб., 1882. Т. 3. С. 135). Великий духоносный подвижник, преподобный Исаак в своих "Словах" раскрывает собственный духовный опыт людям, стремящимся к высшей цели человеческого существования - богообщению и спасению души.

According to Bishop Philaret (Gumilevsky), "Saint Isaak devoted his whole life to the solitary study of his soul, and no one's teachings are filled with such profound psychological information as the teachings of St. Isaac, having passed the degree of spiritual contemplative life, Saint Isaac introduces instructions on contemplation to the lofty and based on solid experiences.The spiritual life is depicted in his teachings in application to the most elusive states of the soul "(Historical doctrine of the Fathers of the Church, St. Petersburg, 1882. T. 3. P. 135). The great spiritual ascetic, the Reverend Isaak in his "Words" reveals his own spiritual experience to people who are striving for the supreme goal of human existence - the communion with God and the salvation of the soul.
